Dior Spring 2018

Who says fashion isn’t art? The Dior Spring 2018 Runway show presented during Paris Week ingeniously married high end couture with abstract art apart from concrete realities. The result? Decadent designs that catch and tantalize the eyes!

Who or what served as the inspiration behind the collection? Designer Maria Grazia Chiuri was inspired by artist Leonor Fini; who was an Argentinian surrealist painter, designer, author, as well as illustrator. Fini was well-known for her depictions of powerful women in which she made during the surrealist period.

Nevertheless, Surrealism wasn’t just about the art, it was a cultural movement that began in the early 1920s and ended roughly around 1966. Those taking part in this particular style of art and literature produced works that to others seemed to be illogical, dreamlike and at times unnerving.

Nonetheless, for the Dior Spring/Summer 2018 Collection Maria Grazia Chiuri fully immersed herself in the surrealist movement; which allowed her to experiment with various techniques in order to sprinkle her designs with illusion as well as surprise. Maria did not want to create just another beautiful collection. She was inspired to push and test boundaries to the point that she herself could describe the spring collection as being “a dream of fashion.”

Oh the exclusive front row! For their fashion shows, designers enjoy showing off their array of fabulous friends. The Dior Spring 2018 reveal was not any different. Dior’s show space was filled to the brim with fashionistas, supermodels and A-list stars. For instance, model and actress, Willow Smith, was in attendance along with fashion royalty Naomi Campbell and Winnie Harlow.

All three stylish starlets wore their own version of the Dior show’s theme. Like on the catwalk as well as the show’s interior backdrop, black and white trendy couture permeated the scene. We loved Willow’s noire sheer skirt and vest combo. Chic, effortless, minimalist yet attention grabbing.
